Course Information
  • Food Premises Requirement: In NSW, the requirement for a Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) depends on the type of food business. Not all food premises are required to have a Food Safety Supervisor. Please refer to the NSW Food Authority website for more information.
  • Responsibility: In NSW, certain food businesses are required to appoint a Food Safety Supervisor who holds a valid FSS certificate. This individual is responsible for overseeing food safety practices and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations.
  • Legal Compliance: Food businesses must comply with the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, which sets out the requirements for food safety, including the handling, storage, and preparation of food.
  • Training and Competency: Businesses involved in food handling must obtain the necessary licenses and ensure that their Food Safety Supervisor holds a current certification, which is recognised by the NSW Food Authority. This certification must be renewed every five years.
  • Pre-requisite: There is no training pre-requisite for the units of competency SITXFSA005 and SITXFSA006.
  • Minimum Standards: Our training course covers minimum competency standards applicable to hospitality and various retail sectors.
  • Personal Information: In compliance with privacy laws, when enrolling in this course your personal information will be provided to the NSW Food Authority.
  • NSW FSS Certificates: Successfully completing the NSW FSS grants students the option of receiving a stand-alone FSS certificate with a unique identifying number. This certificate is in addition to statements of attainment provided to the student for completing the national units of competency. The NSW FSS certificate is the legal document required for any individual who is appointed as the Food Safety Supervisor for a business operating in NSW.

The NSW FSS course covers NSW Food Authority key focus areas including:

  • Safe Egg Handling
  • Allergen Management
