Food Handlers training course is delivered and statements of attainment are issued by Edway Training Pty Ltd (RTO 91401).
Edway Training is accredited by the Australian Skills and Quality Authority (ASQA) to deliver this training course.
Target Audience
Food Handlers certificate is required for:
- Individuals who directly handle food or food contact surfaces, such as cutlery, plates, and bowls, are required to complete a food handlers certificate
- Cooks, chefs, caterers, kitchen hands, bar and food and beverage attendants, and sometimes room attendants and front office staff
- Anyone involved in the preparation, service, or sale of food in various settings, including restaurants, cafes, bars, and fast-food outlets
Refresher
According to NSW Food Authority, refresher training should be conducted for Food Handlers every 5 years
Legal Requirement
From 8 December 2023 businesses in Australia need to meet a new food safety standard. Standard 3.2.2 (Food Safety Practices and General Requirements) in the Code requires that people who handle food, and the people who supervise them, have the skills and knowledge in food safety and food hygiene for the work they do
Unit of Competency Details
This course supersedes and is equivalent to SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety.

What will you learn
Food Handlers Course (Level 1) training covers food safety topics such as following hygiene procedures, identifying food hazards, reporting any personal health issues, preventing food contamination, and preventing cross-contamination by washing hands..
Food Handlers training course consists of a power point presentation, class activities, videos and end of the day assessment.

Identification
Participants must provide one form of photo I.D. (e.g. passport, Australian driver’s licence, NSW proof of age card).
Please note only an international passport is accepted as an non-Australian document. All other forms of I.D. must be issued in Australia.
STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT WILL NOT BE ISSUED
if participants do not provide a valid form of I.D
Attendance
Participants should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time of the course to complete the necessary registration paperwork.
ENTRY TO THE COURSE WILL BE REFUSED
if participants arrive 15 minutes after the scheduled starting time.
LLN (Language, Literacy and Numeracy)
The basic understanding, reading and writing of English is required.
As part of our pre-training review all students are required to complete an LLN assessment to determine a student’s eligibility for enrolment into their selected course.
All students enrolling into any Edway Training course must have LLN skills to do simple calculations, understand English well enough to be able to read, write, and provide verbal responses to questions in English to undertake training and assessment in any of our courses.

USI (Unique Student Identifier)
From 1 January 2015, every student who undertakes nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Australia is required to have a USI.
STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT CAN NOT BE ISSUED
if a participant fails to produce a valid USI number.
